HORSE

The Icelandic horse is small in stature, strong, hardy and famed for its five gaits. It evolved from the horses that Iceland’s first settlers brought with them and there has been no cross-breeding with other breeds. The Icelandic horse has long been affectionately known as “the most useful servant” and its importance to Icelandic work and travel before the advent of the automobile cannot be underestimated.
